High Rock Park 9/11 Memorial

0

Remembrance and Renewal

Along with Frost Hurff Architects and the Saratoga Arts Council, The LA Group designed a park plan for Tempered By Memory, a 9/11 memorial sculpture using steel artifacts from the World Trade Center Towers.

Working closely with the City of Saratoga Springs, The LA Group assisted with identifying a site for the memorial and helped guide the design for integrating it into the natural landscape of High Rock Park, a historic park that centers around an origin spring Native Americans found in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The site is situated at the base of a rock escarpment, creating an equally dramatic and private experience and contrasting the man-made steel with an impressive open rock backdrop

With winding pathways that draw visitors to view the statue from nearby landmarks, The LA Group was able to design a park that integrated a naturalistic setting, historic context, and the peace and reverence due for this work of art.

“The beauty is in the material. And the material speaks for itself.”

– John Van Alstine, co-artist of Tempered By Memory
